In today’s post, I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone:
- Add a haiku for Day 16
- Give a “Memoir-in-Progress” tidbit. I thought it would be “interesting” to explain my three “Unrequiteds” in seventeen syllables. (More information here: https://janmorrill.com/2026/04/08/memoir-in-progress-unrequited/)
So, here’s Unrequited #1’s haiku. To make a very long story short, it began as a first love and ended, (or, more appropriately, it became “unrequited”) when my mom read my diary.
Stay tuned for Unrequited #2’s and Unrequited #3’s haikus.
I welcome your haiku, too. Maybe about your first love? A diary? A betrayal? You might just win a copy of my book, Life: Haiku by Haiku!

Jerry and Linda;
Why couldn’t she be First Lady?
Blame monogamy.
I suppose there can only be one First Lady! Thanks for all of your haikus, Robb!
Mr Auston and I liked the possibility of Linda Ronstadt becoming First Lady. It seemed like a neat idea at the time. 🙂
Oh to be a fly on the wall for some of those conversations. 🙂
Blonde haired pony tail
Motorcycle seat awaits
Careless love is lost
Joan, in seventeen syllables, you’ve made me imagine. I’ve been amazed at the stories I hear when I talk to people about “unrequited.” 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
