National Poetry Month – Day 5: Easter

Welcome to Day 5 of National Poetry Month! I’m celebrating by writing a haiku each day in April, and I’d love for you to join me! Simply share your haiku in the comments. For each haiku you share, I’ll enter your name into a drawing for my book of haiku, Life: Haiku by Haiku. (ie, if you share 5 haikus, you’ll be entered 5 times.)

Today’s haiku is titled “Easter.” We took three of our grandkids to the Easter Egg hunt at Cleveland Botanical Garden. Our grandsons, Jack and Harry, ran off to search for Easter eggs, but first, Penelope wanted to hug the Easter Bunny. We stood in line, and when her turn came, she ran up and gave him such an enthusiastic hug, he fell over!

It’s hard to capture such joy in seventeen syllables, but here’s my attempt:

A person in a large Easter Bunny costume hugs a young girl in a pink sweater and floral pants in front of a pink vintage car decorated with flowers.

Give the prompt “Easter” a try — but feel free to share a haiku on any topic! Most important, have fun!!
