Day 11 – The Fifty-Year Flash

Just a short post today, as we’re getting ready to leave for Steve’s 50-year high school reunion in Penfield, NY. Fifty years! And I’m not far behind him. Mine will be in 2026, that is, if we have one. So far, nobody has volunteered to chair the committee. 🙂

So today, just a few thoughts:

  • I look forward to meeting Steve’s old high school friends, including his high school-through-college sweetheart. Since we met relatively late in life, I didn’t get to share in the early part of his history, except verbally. I look forward to learning more about the puzzle pieces that make up who Steve is.
  • I wonder how he will feel about seeing his old friends, football team mates, and girlfriend. He tends to be nostalgic, so I look forward to hearing his thoughts on the road trip home.
  • I’ve been to a couple of my reunions. It’s always fun to see old friends, particularly those who were important parts of a pivotal four years. One reunion in particular will play an important part in my memoir.

I’m sure I could find Steve’s graduation photo somewhere, but as I’m in a hurry, I’ll just post this Columbia football photo that’s easily accessible:

Fifty years. It sure went by fast!

  1. I think he looks better now. 😉. Having graduated in 1971, I’m ahead of both of you. I’ve been to two reunions and it was interesting to see how people aged, what they’d really thought about me in high school school (better than I thought then), and who wasn’t there anymore. Have a blast!
